The Label Project – Wine 1

The label project Adelaide Hills wineis a very exciting project about not judging a wine by its label. I was asked to take part, am a willing subject, to see if I could guess the wine(s), more of a personal challenge I guess.

The first wine arrived in a wooden box with 3 atomisers. The first atomiser had a distinct lemon zest character, almost lemon washing up liquid. The second atomiser smelled of coconut and vanilla, whilst the third atomiser smelled of toasted oak, almond, cinnamon, and hazelnut.

The atomisers were to be individual components to the wine. The colour was pale straw. The nose had a european austerity to it. Lemon, nuts and wild flowers spilled over. Youthful palate with fresh dry fruit and good mineral finish.

It was reminiscent of a Central Otago Riesling. Slightly angular and awkward, but decidedly pleasant. It is my guess that this wine is from Adelaide Hills and is a Riesling.
