Chateau Bauduc 2008 Bordeaux Blanc Sec Sauvignon Blanc – Semillon Golden in colour, smoky bacon, lemon and lime on the nose, a complete contrast to New Zealand sauvignon Blanc. Candied lemon peel, and a little hint of spice on the palate. 86 points

With only 4 wineries producing Syrah in the Waipara region I am surprised there are not more. George’s Road Greystone, Muddy Water, and Waipara Springs each produce Syrah with similar regional traits. The main similarity is the intense floral aromatics that define them as Waipara.
