Wine Review: Saint Clair Block 3 Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Saint Clair winery produces some of New Zealand’s finest examples of Sauvignon Blanc year after year, and this year is no exception. Although a tough market right now nationally, it is overseas where there is still a love affair with Kiwi Sauvignon.

Block 3 has more tropical fruit on the nose than most fruit salads. There are oodles of passion fruit, guava, and pineapple that just ooze out of the glass. Forget green Sauvignon as this wine feels like it has freshly arrived from the tropics.

The palate follows the nose with lashings of rich ripe tropical fruit all held together with a crisp acidity to keep all of the ripe fruit in check! The finish is long and the wine exciting, but one just has to remember what block and number it is, as Saint Clair have so different ones many that you get confused.
