Wine of the week: Passage Rock Syrah 2009 Waiheke Island
Waiheke Island Syrah
Definitely qualifies for Bargain of the week. For Under $20, this Syrah is held in high regard by Michael Cooper and also states that it has classic written all over it. All estate grown fruit and matured in oak barrels (mostly American oak) given subtle vanilla characters on the nose and some creaminess on the palate.

It’s quite a big wine, with all the dark fruits on display. The blackberry and black doris plum come to the fore with soft and subtle, drying tannin to finish.

Over all this wine does represent value, given that it used to sit at $35 on the shelf and can now be found for under $20, it’s a steal.
