Obsidian to sell their vineyard and wine business.Waiheke island wine

Very sad news that Obsidian’s owners are to sell their vineyard and wine business. Obsidian was the first New Zealand vineyard that I had the fortune to visit, back in 1999. Back then it wasn’t a flash setup but the wines were superb. To me they had the potential to rival Stonyridge, also based on Waiheke.

“The decision to sell has not been taken lightly, but we look forward to securing a new owner who will continue the journey and take Obsidian to even greater heights.” said Lindsay Spillman.

Hopefully this isn’t the last we see of the Obsidian label on the shelves of wine stores and supermarkets. They still have s place in my heart, and also my parents who were very impressed with the quality of wine (and that’s saying something from 2 old Francophiles).
